No. 20 men’s tennis looks to down Dons

Feb. 15, 2017, 2:15 a.m.

After No. 20 Stanford men’s tennis (5-1) swept UNLV  and Saint Mary’s over the weekend, the Cardinal now look to take on San Francisco (2-3) on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Taube Family Tennis Center.

As the team squares off against the Dons, it does so hoping to replicate performances from the previous weekend. The Cardinal barely dropped a single set versus their two previous opponents, with all singles players performing excellently throughout both matches.

Especially impressive so far this season has been junior Tom Fawcett, who currently ranks 7th in the nation in singles play. Additionally, Stanford has two other players ranked in the ITA’s top 100: No. 70 Michael Genender and No. 75 Jack Barber.

In their 4-3 victory over the Memphis Tigers almost two weeks ago, the Stanford men struggled in the doubles point. While this issue was resolved over this last weekend, this could be an area of contention in the upcoming match. The Cardinal utilized a team of Genender and Fawcett versus SMU over the weekend to decimate a doubles set 6-2 and start the match off at a quick pace. What teams they work with on Wednesday could be a key factor in play.

The games will be livestreamed at streamingtennis.com.
