Stanford baseball continues its non-conference schedule Thursday night in a familiar matchup, one that brings together two coaches that have combined for nearly 3,500 wins and rank No. 1 (Texas head coach Augie Garrido) and No. 3 (Stanford head coach Mark Marquess) among active NCAA Division I coaches in career wins.

After a tough start to the season, the Cardinal (7-6) are 5-2 in their last seven games, over which they split a four-game series at Rice and then won a high-scoring affair at San Jose State on Tuesday.

Stanford’s freshmen have taken on a large role for the team, accounting for 45 percent of the team’s at-bats thus far. Matt Winaker (.415) and Mikey Diekroeger (.333), both in their first years on the Farm, lead the team in batting average.

The Longhorns (8-4) enter having lost two games to San Diego on Sunday, following up a seven-game winning streak.
