Stanford came in second for funds raised by American universities in 2014. Stanford raised $929 million, only below Harvard’s $1.16 billion.
Two years ago, Stanford was the first American university to raise over $1 billion in one year. This is the first time in a decade that Harvard has raised more than Stanford.
However, Stanford may find better luck in 2015. According to a Bloomberg article, the donation of the Anderson Collection to Stanford will be assessed and counted in 2015. The collection opened at Stanford this past fall, and houses a treasure trove of iconic modern American art.
2014 marked a good year for universities in general. The total amount raised by all institutions raised to almost $38 billion, a 10.8 percent increase from last year.
The data comes from the Council for Aid to Education’s 2014 survey of universities. The University of Southern California came in third on the 2014 lists, followed by Northwestern University. The complete list of 2014’s top ten universities for fundraising can be found on Inside Higher Ed.
