Men’s tennis posts back-to-back sweeps at home

Feb. 10, 2020, 3:15 a.m.

The No. 8 Stanford men’s tennis team stretched its winning streak to three this past weekend with back-to-back sweeps of Grand Canyon on Friday afternoon and Pacific on Saturday. The Cardinal are now 5-1 on the season at home and 6-1 overall.

The match against Grand Canyon kicked off Friday at 3 p.m. After the pairings of Tomas Kopczynski/Alexandre Rotsaert and Filip Kolasinski/Neel Rajesh each took their matches 6-3 to seal the doubles point for the Cardinal, sophomores Kento Perera and Sangeet Sridhar led the way in singles with straight-set victories. Junior Timothy Sah provided the clincher with a win over David Weber (6-2, 6-2), completing the sweep.

The team returned to Taube the next day to take on Pacific, a squad that entered the weekend without a single win on the season. The Cardinal made quick work of the Tigers; Sah/Sridhar and Kopczynski/Rotsaert earned the doubles point before the team posted three straight-set wins in singles. Perera provided the clincher — his first of the season — with a nearly spotless win over John Horoz Garner (6-1, 6-0).

Pacific would end the weekend with one win on its record, though; it hosted Grand Canyon at home in Stockton, California, grabbing a 4-2 victory in an early morning match Sunday.

Stanford returns to action next at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships starting this Thursday and stretching to next Monday in Madison, Wisconsin; the team qualified with back-to-back wins to open the season during the ITA Kick-Off Weekend against Tulane on Jan. 25 and then-No. 13 Cal the next day.
