Two rapes reported in campus residences within last two weeks

Oct. 8, 2017, 1:15 p.m.

Two rapes occurred in on-campus residences within the last two weeks, according to an AlertSU Crime Alert released Sunday night.

The first incident occurred “on or around” Sept. 30 or Oct. 1, while the second occurred in the early hours of last Sunday, Oct. 8.

The alert stated that both victims knew the suspects. Three out of four victims of sexual assault know their perpetrators, according to statistics provided by the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN).

Authorities do not believe the assaults to be related.

Stanford releases AlertSU reports in compliance with the Clery Act, which requires colleges and universities to disclose crime statistics in a timely manner.
