No. 8 Stanford men’s swimming (5-1) saw its season-opening streak of five dual wins snapped with a 167-133 loss to No. 12 USC (7-1) on Saturday at the Uytengsu Aquatic Center in Los Angeles.
Although Stanford did a good job of sticking around in the team score by claiming second-place finishes in the vast majority of the events that it didn’t win, USC’s dominance atop the podium was ultimately too much to overcome despite sophomore Sam Perry’s victory in the 100 free, Liang’s crown in the 100 fly and a 1-2 finish in the 400 freestyle relay to close the meet.
Stanford’s divers, senior Connor Kuremsky and junior Bradley Christensen, didn’t fare much better, as USC swept the podium in the 3-meter event and also claimed a 1-2 finish in the 1-meter event earlier in the meet.
The Cardinal will next return home for their regular-season finale against Cal at Avery Aquatic Center at noon on Saturday, Feb. 20.
