Stanford preleases Los Altos apartment building for faculty and staff

Stanford has preleased an entire apartment complex in Los Altos to provide housing for University employees as faculty and staff numbers continue to increase.

The 167-unit “Colonnade” apartment building is located at 4750 El Camino Real, across from the San Antonio Shopping Mall, and is still under construction, according to the San Francisco Business Times.

In a statement to the Business Times, Jan Thomson, director of faculty housing, said the apartment building was chosen for its proximity to Stanford and the availability of bus lines between the apartment and campus. She anticipated that the existing shuttle between the San Antonio Shopping Center and Stanford would become more frequent.

The housing investment is part of a recent trend. Last summer, the University announced the purchase of 180 units of for-sale housing in Stanford Research Park on California Avenue. Construction for the project is scheduled to finish by 2017.
