Linguistics lecturer and former director of EFS Beverley McChesney dies at 70

Beverley McChesney, senior lecturer for linguistics and former Director of English for Foreign Students (EFS), died on Nov. 16, 2014. She was 70 years old.

McChesney began working at the EFS program in 1970 and quickly became involved in summer ESL programs for international graduate students. She became Director of EFS in 1982, retaining the post until 2003, when she departed for health reasons. During her tenure as director, McChesney developed international teaching assistant testing and training, initiated a cross cultural communications course and created computer labs and classrooms, among other innovations.
