The Stanford women’s lacrosse team boosted its record to 6-0 with a 15-7 win over the Canisius Golden Griffins on Sunday, continuing a promising start to the season on the team’s first road trip.
The team started slowly, and then ran away with the game. 11:17 into the first half, the No. 9 Cardinal was down 2-0, but five different Stanford players netted goals before the half while keeping the Griffin offense silent. Canisius would never catch up, as a hat trick by senior midfielder Leslie Foard helped the Card build a 12-3 lead and ultimately capture the 15-7 victory. Five other Stanford players had two goals each: freshman midfielder Anna Kim, senior attacker Sarah Flynn, junior attacker Anna Boeri, junior midfielder Emilie Boeri and sophomore midfielder Jacqueline Candelaria.
Griffin goaltender Allison Daley had an impressive 13 saves on the day, but the Cardinal kept pouring on the offense, outshooting Canisius 41-20 for the game. Stanford senior Annie Read played the full 60 minutes in the net and scored the win with eight saves.
The Stanford defense has had a strong stretch lately, holding Canisius to seven goals and allowing only 12 total over the last two games.
The Card now faces the challenge of carrying its momentum through its Dead Week and Finals Week break, as the team rests until its road trip to Cincinnati, Louisville and Vanderbilt beginning March 22.
