Medvedev Speaks | Russian President Dmitry Medvedev spoke today on campus at 4 p.m. Stanford University live-tweeted the speech and shared it on the web as a live webcast. The president said he was inspired by the innovation of Silicon Valley. After this speech, Medvedev is flying to Washington to meet with President Obama.
Summertime, and the Jazzin’ is Easy | The Stanford Jazz Festival starts on Friday and continues until Aug. 7. It’s a campus tradition for over 30 years that brings heavy hitters to campus for some fine tunes and easy grooving. The schedule includes Moroccan-inspired jazz piano as well as an Ella Fitzgerald tribute performance, and the entire festival is also associated with other summer jazz efforts such as the Stanford Jazz Workshop and Stanford Jazz Camp.
Traffic Calming | Santa Clara County District Supervisor Liz Kniss announced funding today for a project on Junipero Serra designed to reduce accidents by slowing down traffic and discouraging illegal turns. The portion of the road that will be affected spans from Campus Dr. to Santa Maria Blvd. and construction will be scheduled for 2011 or 2012.
